Conditions were excellent this morning at Breakneck Hill Conservation Land in Southborough for today's field trip: temps in the high 70s/low 80s, full sun and some breeze. There were 17 of us in total, including two of the conservation land stewards.
We saw:
22 Silvery Blue 2 Cabbage White 20 Clouded Sulphur 3 Pearl Crescent 2 Common Ringlet 5 American Copper 4 Eastern Tailed-blue 1 Northern Cloudywing 1 Tiger Swallowtail 1 Eastern Pine Elfin 1 American Lady
Andy and Lauren Griffith, who parked in the overflow lot, were on the way back to their car when they saw:
1 Red Admiral 1 Monarch
Total of 13 species and 64 individuals.
We finished at about 1:00 pm and then a group of us (Judd and Amy, Bette, Steve and myself) went to Horn Pond Mountain in Woburn. We arrived at about 2:00 pm, conditions were similar to the morning but with more clouds, and we saw:
1 Juniper Hairstreak 13 Duskywing (sp) 2 American Lady 1 Cabbage White 3 Black Swallowtail 3 Eastern Tailed-blue 3 Mourning Cloak
Total of 7 species, 26 individuals.
