Morning birding walk. Sunny, but gusty - forecast said 15 mph - probably kept the butterflies quieter. Frances A Crane WMA, Falmouth, Cape Cod. May 20.
- Baltimore Checkerspot caterpillar - there were dozens, probably more in the grass, feeding on the plants. (I did not make note of the species of plants - next time!) https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/363446109 - Pearl Crescent - at least 20, probably more, the most common butterfly I saw - American Copper - 4 - Clouded Sulpher - at least a dozen - Cabbage White - at least a dozen - Black Swallowtail - 1 - American Lady - 2 - Eastern Tailed-Blue - 1 https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/363444845
I am not 100% sure of the identification of these, and would welcome corrections:
- Juvenal's Duskywing - at least 1 https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/363429948 - Wild Indigo Duskywing - 3-4; these were noticeably smaller than the Juvenal's: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/363423486 - Northern Cloudywing - 1 https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/363423487
