I don=E2=80=99t see how this is a new discovery. It=E2=80=99s long been obs=
erved that
some fall migrant monarchs from the northern USA become reproductive
en route to the overwintering sites and lay eggs including the milkweeds=20
growing along or near the California fall and winter cluster sites.=20

I also don=E2=80=99t see how anyone can say that a "southern California yea=
r-round=20
breeding population=E2=80=9D really exists because when monarch enthusiasts=
=20
living along the coast have raised and tagged monarchs in late summer=20
and early fall many emerge as diapausers that fly to nearby overwintering=20
sites.

There is no difference between the reproductive and migration biology
and behavior of northern and southern California coastal monarchs;
i.e. winter egg laying and summer breeding occur along the northern=20
as well as southern California coast.=20
