Lots of tortoiseshells were flying in the east bay in the spring, and there=
were quite a few in Yuba Pass and Ashland. Nothing like a breakout year he=
re, but up north people were seeing lots of them. As you said, it=92s been =
a while since I=92ve seen any significant numbers of them.
David, where are your closest Western Pygmy Blues? We could go see them in =
Benicia. I=92d also like to go check for helloides in Point Richmond. I thi=
nk the Berkeley count in June is too early to find them for some reason, bu=
t I thought I glimpsed some of them in the swampy area south of the ridge.
Orange sulphurs are strangely almost absent from Wildcat and Tilden. I susp=
ect they rebound in October, as I have seen lots even on Halloween in previ=
ous years.
