Hi Folks:

I was at the Northampton Community Gardens early this afternoon and
ran into Ron and Sue Clouiter. We walked around for some time. As we
were about to leave a Giant Swallowtail flew past us and then buzzed us
several times. When I got home I did some checking of the Spring journals of
the Massachusetts Butterfly Club. Giant Swallowtail had NOT been reported
in the State of Massachusetts since 1895 until one was reported on the South
Berkshire 4th of July count of 1998. Next one was reported from Amherst
in 2003 by Dee Dee Minear. They have been reported every year since 2009
with the most reports in 2012---54 records. Up to today the latest report
was September 17, 2014

Hope it can "hang in there" until Sunday-----OCTOBER 1ST !!!!

Tom Gagnon, Florence, Massachusetts
