This study does not say that all the individuals were marked, just marking
and tagging was used. It does not ascertain whether individuals showed any
damage from marking or what condition their wings were in. The study table
on Page 29 of the study says of the 1,550 Monarchs that were tagged 41 were
found. How many of those individuals were also marked and what was the
condition of their wings? I think more study needs to be done. Why mark
butterflies wings with permanent marker, if it is causing the wings to
deteriorate. For reference:
