I just today see the obituary for Earle R. "Bud" Webster, Jr., in today's
News & Observer. Bud, as he was known to us butterfliers, was an active
field observer and photographer in the last few years of his life, which
sadly ended two days ago at age 81. Bud led several fields trips in the
local area, especially to Yates Pond, for the Carolina Butterfly Society
and the new Triangle Chapter. He found and photographed some notable
records such as Broad-winged Skipper, Byssus Skipper, and others in the
area. Several of his photos, such as Checkered White, appear on the
Butterflies of North Carolina website. I would run into Bud about once
every 2-3 months at Yates Pond or Mid-Pines Road, always with his camera,
and I saw him there only about a month ago. Thus, his passing may have
been quite sudden and unexpected.

I was glad to have had the opportunity to know him and have him as a part
of CBS and my nature experiences in Wake County.
