Today I stumbled upon a Google Earth Street View image taken in April 2017
that shows the Harbor Blvd Monarch Eucalyptus Grove in Ventura, Calif. had
been heavily logged late last winter or early spring, including many of the=
actual
cluster trees. Three months earlier (on Jan. 26, 2017) I had shot photos o=
f this=20
grove. Here are side by side Jan. 2017 vs April 2017 images showing the clu=
ster
trees that were logged:=20

geshack.us/a/img922/6112/hSu35D.jpg>

And here is a 3 minute video I shot on Jan. 11, 2014 showing 3,000 monarchs=
=20
clustered in the now logged blue gum eucalyptus trees:=20

This Harbor Blvd. site often had more monarchs than any of Ventura=E2=80=99=
s
other overwintering or fall cluster sites, so it was an important site.
The tree cover is now badly degraded, hence far fewer monarchs will
likely cluster in the grove during the fall and they probably won=E2=80=99t=
reliably=20
cluster there into late January or early Feb. as they had in the past.=20
