On Sunday, July 8th, I was at the Doughton Park Liatris meadow (at the picnic area entrance) for a short time and photographed a Common Wood-Nymph nectaring on Liatris. I thought it might have been a fortunate catch of an unusual behavior.

I was back there for 90 minutes or so yesterday, July 10, sorting through Great Spangled vs. Aphrodite Fritillaries plus looking to catch a nectaring Delaware Skipper (success, and they have an impressive proboscis). At meadow edges nectaring Common Wood-Nymphs were as common as nectaring Fritillaries and persisted even when driven off by Silver-spotted Skippers. A nectaring Common Wood-Nymph would often visit a half-dozen or more stems. Entertaining, and handsome.
