From Monday:=C2=A0Yesterday I took a brief walk to check the hills around =
Miramar Lake in north-central SD County.=C2=A0Because of the drought-like c=
onditions in the last decade I hadn't visited this location for afew years.=
I walked mostly the southern facing hills that get the most sun and would =
have more=C2=A0nectar. Although I had a good splash of diversity, there's l=
ow numbers because of the recent weather.=C2=A0While the walk down the hill=
to the lake (yes, it's technically a reservoir) produced nothing but=C2=A0=
Painted Ladies flying N-NE, the walk backup the hill was more productive.
Because I didn't have time to go to the desert, I went to Miramar to check =
on the colony ofWestern Tailed Blues. It had been a couple years since I ha=
d been to this location even thoughit's not that far from where I live. The=
Locoweed along the trail on the north end was all gone=C2=A0but I found a =
lot in bloom while bushwhacking up a hill. It wasn't long until I saw 4 amy=
ntula=C2=A0males and one or possibly two females. I saw six other species i=
n the 40 minutes that I was=C2=A0there including many just emerged adult Be=
hr's Metalmarks. I had just one Sara.
