Subject: [SoWestLep] Dogface question

I had a strikingly pale whitish-yellow dogface flyby (so no photo) in the C=
alifornia coastal ranges. It had a male type pattern on the forewing and wa=
s definitely not a female California Dogface. I was thinking that it was a =
Southern Dogface, but then some on-line image searches turned out this imag=
e, where the middle of the forewing is quite pale:

https://bugguide.net/node/view/137587

Is this a photographic artifact or can California Dogface be this whitish y=
ellow in males? I have never seen one as pale as the one I saw today.

Thanks,
