Hi,
Today on the Burma Road Trail in Milton, from 9:30-10:40, I surprised a
young deer, which jumped from the trail into the marsh, surprising me as
well. At the beginning of the trail, the edges are already starting to grow
together, as is the overhead canopy, decreasing the sunlight on the trail.
The trail was wet from last night's rain, and seven frogs/toads leapt into
the vegetation as I approached.
1 Monarch
1 Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
1 Little Wood-Satyr
1 Zabulon Skipper
2 Least Skipper
1 Appalachian Brown (FOY)

2 baby Spotted Turtles in the marsh on the left in their usual spot
1 Rose-breasted Grosbeak at the beginning of the trail

At Arnold Arboretum, from 11:30-12:20, along the mowed path around Kent
Field:
4 Peck's Skipper
1 Cabbage White
1 medium-sized dark butterfly, too far away to ID
Along the path at the top of Kent Field:
1 Little Wood-Satyr
1 Monarch flying back and forth to the Milkweed
1 Lady sp.

Sun and clouds, 74-76 degrees

Lucy Merrill-Hills
Roslindale, Ma
