Thank you Josh and Christine! I looked up Acanthocephala eggs and found
this photo:

Greatly magnified from mine, but I looked closely at my two eggs and they
look a lot like the one in this photo as they have a faint ring around the
top (which you can see more clearly in the link I sent). Thanks for the
reminder about Charley's book. I use it a lot for leaf miners etc. but
completely forgot about the section on eggs!
