Everyone: The season was running behind from 2-4 weeks in the Kennedy Meado=
ws area today June 25th and about 4 weeks behind at Sherman Pass where much=
of the ground is still covered with snow. Because diversity was low and ta=
rget species were often not out at all, it ended up being a transect day. A=
reas covered included Onyx (Kern County) and the Chimney Peak Rd.(Kern & Tu=
lare Counties), Kennedy Meadows Rd. N of Chimney Peak and Spring (Pine Cree=
k) and just south of Fish Creek; Sherman Pass Rd. from there to west below =
the Pass was nearly devoid of butterflies but some were out starting west b=
elow the Pass at about 8200', Alder Creek, Cherry Hills Rd., Dry Creek Cany=
on and Calkin's Flat.
Butterflies found:
Silver-Spotted Skipper (E. clarus californicus) 1 or 2 at Alder Creek 6800'=
Propertius Duskywing (E. propertius): 3 along Chimney Peak Rd.Persius Dusky=
wing (E. persius)-about 10 at Alder Crk.Large White Skipper (H. ericetorum)=
-Chimney Peak Rd., Kennedy Meadows 3 or 4Juba Skipper (H. juba)-1 at Alder =

=C2=A0=C2=A0 I may have seen 2 Monache Checkerspots flying near the host wh=
ich has reappeared at Spring (Pine Creek. Had I known the upper localities =
had virtually no other butterflies than brown Juniper Hairstreaks, I'd have=
stayed there longer. No Western Branded Skippers (H. Colorado) were seen, =
normally out by the hundreds this time of the year.
