Funny you should ask about Red-spotted Purple.=C2=A0 I had just read your e=
-mail, and then went out in my yard to check out the swirling hairstreaks a=
nd a Red-spotted Purple flew right into my line of vision.=C2=A0 It is hang=
ing out now on the side of a tree.=C2=A0 I remembered seeing one at Lamson =
Rd. this year and checked my records, it was on 6/12/19.

I climbed Horn Pond Mountain in Woburn today and found some interesting but=
terflies.=C2=A0 For the first time I saw Viceroys there, not one but at lea=
st four!=C2=A0 One was dead, draped over a goldenrod frond, with no sign of=
a crab spider or assassin bug who could have snared it.=C2=A0 There were a=
lso at least four buckeyes, one of which was very dark.=C2=A0 If I'd seen i=
t in Texas, I would be tempted to call it a Tropical Buckeye.=C2=A0 And I h=
ad some Juniper Hairstreaks.=C2=A0 I found the first one just perched on so=
me lowbush blueberry as I reached for a snack during my hike.=C2=A0 There w=
ere others in the short junipers at the summit.
I haven't seen a Red-spotted Purple or Great Spangled Fritillary east of 49=
5 yet this year.=C2=A0 Is it just me, or are these really scarce this year?
