Hi,
There was a time a few decades ago when the Broad-winged Skipper was
designated a rare species on an official MA checklist. Of course, that is
not the case anymore but still, Broad-winged Skippers can be very local
butterflies. I have always found them most easily where Purple Loosestrife
is flowering in more or less direct contact with Common Reeds. Today, in
Norton, I saw 17 Broad-winged Skippers and all were on Purple Loosestrife
flowers directly next to Common Reeds. Also saw the first second-generation
Peck's and Tawny-edged Skippers.
