I have been chomping at the bit to get out to Sheffield, especially after s=
eeing what a great field trip Bill and Nancy Callahan led there a couple of=
weeks ago. What a difference two weeks can make!=C2=A0 The two of us went =
out to Bartholomew's Cobble (TTOR) and Mass Audubon's Lime Kiln Sanctuary o=
n 8/10.=C2=A0 Butterflies in general were very low in numbers, and we explo=
red a good deal of the Cobble and the most promising-looking spots at Lime =
Kiln. Sunshine was strong when we first arrived, then intermittent cloud co=
ver and occasional sprinkles took over for the first part of the afternoon.=
But the weather wasn't keeping the butterflies we DID see away;even during=
sunny periods we weren't seeing much, so we don't think the fickle weather=
was to blame. Although a few small fields had been mowed, there were still=
ample nectar supplies, especially in the form of wild bergamot all over th=
e Cobble fields. We got skunked on emperors, which I was hoping to see. May=
be next year. .=C2=A0 .Still, the Giant Swallowtails are wonderful!
