Subject: [MassLep] Southborough and Marlborough 8/11/2019
Nice day - mostly sunny and 77 degrees. Butterflies 10 individuals in 2
hours!! If you don't think the world is coming to an end, you haven't
been looking for butterflies in Eastern Massachusetts.
Breakneck Hill Reservation, Southborough, Ma 11am to 12:25pm:
Cabbage White - 1
Common Ringlet - 1
Common Wood Nymph - 1
Monarch - 4
Unidentified large dark butterfly (either a dark swallowtail or
red-spotted admiral - too far away to id) - 1
Assabet River at Boundary Street, Marlborough 1:30pm
A lot of Joe Pye-Weed and Loosestrife but no butterflies
Quabbin Aqueduct on Robin Hill Road just south of the Assabet River,
Marlborough 1:45pm to 2:10pm
Clouded Sulphur - 1
Little Glassywing - 1
Usually at this time of year this area produces many Cabbage Whites,
Clouded and Orange Sulphurs, Wild Indigo Duskywings and other species.
Hopefully just an off year.
Next Saturday it's back to the Western part of the state with the MBC
walk at Fannie Stebbins in Longmadow. Details on the Club's
