Long day of driving today trying to hit Holly Shelter Gameland, Fort Fisher=
and the New Hanover County Arboretum. I was hoping to catch up with a Litt=
le Metalmark at Holly Shelter, but had no luck. The recent burn along Lodge =
Road had ample patches of Trilisa odoratissima and a lot of blooming compos=
ites, but no Little Metalmark. Are they already finished? Or victims of the=
extensive burn? There were many butterflies nectaring in the areas I walke=
d and a lot to look at, especially if you are partial to Ocola and Long-tai=
led Skippers. I ended up spending far more time than I planned at Holly She=
lter and it was 3:30 by the time I got to Fort Fisher and I never made it t=
o the arboretum. Highlights at Fort Fisher were 11 Phaon Crescents (most on=
the old airstrip) and 4 Queens between the ferry parking lot and the boat =
launch at the end of the road. Total count for the day was 26 species. List=
