Howdy folks, Yesterday morning I co-led a Hampshire Bird Club walk around Brightwater Bo= g (a.k.a. Ames Pond, a.k.a. Julian=E2=80=99s Bower) in Shutesbury. Had 46 b= ird species, 4 species of carnivorous plants, 2 of orchids, and a variety o= f other fun sightings. As for leps: Common Ringlet 2 Red-spotted Admiral 1 Little Wood-Satyr 2 Unidentified grass-skipper 1 Spilosoma sp. tiger moth 1=20 (I was hoping for a Bog Copper, which iNaturalist has documented from here,= but no luck yesterday, presumably too early) And odonates:=20 Martha=E2=80=99s Pennant 1 (surprisingly early, and pretty unc= ommon this far inland) Dot-tailed Whiteface 3+ Chalk-fronted Corporal. too many to count easily; had 7 in view simult= aneously at one point=20 Spangled Skimmer 1 Slaty Skimmer (probable) 1 Turquoise Bluet 1+ Unidentified spreadwing 1 teneral=20 Today in Amherst:=20 American Lady, nectaring on valerian in our yard https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/290161933=20 Monarch, flying over the ag field near Amethyst Brook=20 Azure sp., nectaring on some ornamental shrub along Harkness Rd=20 Silver-spotted Skipper, perched briefly on a leaf outside my office window = right before I typed this=20 Cheers, Josh Joshua S.
