We got a perfectly clear and sunny morning today, after about 3 cloudy and
cool ones, with still essentially NO rain. I don't remember what real rain
is like; all we get these last few weeks is drizzle and spitting drops. At
least, the staff at Raulston, in west Raleigh, do water their plants to
keep them alive and blooming. The butterflies were VERY active and eager
to get nectar, and the numbers were impressive, but sadly there is still a
lack of rarities in 2025. Even "the" Gulf Fritillary" was absent this
morning. Here is the list for an hour from 950-1050, with a few from Yates
Mill County Park (YM) added in:

Pipevine Swallowtail 4
Black Swallowtail 1 male
E. Tiger Swallowtail 2
Sleepy Orange 10
Cloudless Sulphur 6
Cabbage White 20+
Gray Hairstreak 1 has the E. Tailed-Blue completely disappeared from
here? Used to be regular here
Monarch 1 (YM)
Variegated Fritillary 3
Red-spotted Purple 2 YM
Common Buckeye 3 still few brushfoots at Raulston all year
Silver-spotted Skipper 18
Common Checkered-Skipper 12
Horace's Duskywing 1 worn male
Fiery Skipper 60
Sachem 4 females only
Eufala Skipper 3
Clouded Skipper 25
Ocola Skipper 5
Least Skipper 7 YM
