Campbell Marine Complex, Sampit River, Georgetown, SC September 11, 2025 1:15-2:30 pm cloudy, cool and windy Dennis and Wendy Allen Palamedes Swallowtail 1 Cloudless Sulphur 6 Little Yellow 3 Sleepy Orange 2 Gray Hairstreak 1 Red-banded Hairstreak 1 Gulf Fritillary 5 Pearl Crescent 1 Common Buckeye 11 Hackberry Emperor 1 photographed, 1 emperor landed briefly on Wendy's shoulder, another emperor flew about elsewhere in the complex Carolina Satyr 14 unidentified small satyrs 10 Monarch 3 Long-tailed Skipper 3 White Checkered-Skipper 1 Clouded Skipper 3 Fiery Skipper 12 Ocola Skipper 16 Dennis had visited this site 48 hours earlier, Notable differences in species and numbers on the same walk, same time of day, and under the same weather conditions (e.g. Queen and Delaware Skipper on 9/9, hairstreaks, emperors, Sleepy Orange, Long-tailed Skippers on 9/11). Most butterflies, except emperors and satyrs, were on abundant Climbing Hemp Vine. |
