For those of you who haven't participated in this in past years, we hold this Derby every October to see how many different species of butterflies we see in Massachusetts in October. I will keep the list and update here and on the Facebook page periodically throughout the month. Also, don't forget to report the caterpillars and chrysalids you see! Although we only keep tabs on a species count, please remember to post *all* *individuals* counts when you post. Those numbers are also very important. We look to hit around 30 species generally, hopefully more! There is nothing special that you have to do to enter your sightings. Simply keep on posting what you have seen here or on the Massachusetts Butterflies Facebook page as you normally do throughout the month. I will update my list with the species as I see the entries. These first couple days are looking a bit chilly, but it is set to be a beautiful weekend (and hopefully the rest of the month!). Let's get out there and fill up the list! Although it has been a down year for butterflies, I hope to be very surprised with our October results.
