We had 12 hours below freezing and several at 27 degrees F here on the
hill. The lowlands were colder, including the GSP NOAA which recorded
22F. I'm always amazed how many butterflies survive. Our flowers didn't
survive except for about 10% of the Salvia within a few feet of our south
wall and the several patches of very hardy Mum pacifica which often survive
to 20 degrees. Almost all the butterflies were on our, and our neighbors,
Mum pacifica.
2 Cloudless Sulfur
3 Gulf Fritillary
1 Eastern Comma
8 American Lady
6 C. Buckeye
1 Monarch
2 C.Checkered-Skipper
3 Clouded Skipper
8 Fiery Skippers
2 Sachem

The Mum pacifica was very busy with nectaring insects including two diurnal
moths, Ailanthus Webworm and Grapeleaf Skeletonizer.
