Folks,

Today, Lori Arent and I visited three sites in the Butner/Old Oxford Road
area in northeastern Durham and adjacent Granville counties. The weather
was partly cloudy and warm, in the 70s; droughty conditions continue, with
dusty roads as well. Here are our combined totals, first for Durham and
then for Granville (second). Note -- we ran into Lori White, who was
running her Brickhouse Road Carolina BMP survey. Thus, there is some
overlap between our Durham list and hers, but I wanted to post just what
Lori and I saw. Jeff Pippen can take both sets of totals for the
Butterflies of North Carolina database, or contact me for any potential
overlap! The few Granville butterflies were near Veazey Road, not on a
butterfly survey route.

Zebra Swallowtail 2, -
Pipevine Swallowtail 4, -
Black Swallowtail 1, - male
Spicebush Swallowtail 1, -
E. Tiger Swallowtail 45, 3 tons; many at a single puddle party
Sleepy Orange 12, -
Orange Sulphur 1, -
Falcate Orangetip 6, 1
Cabbage White 3, -
WHITE-M HAIRSTREAK -, 1 Lori got photos, to be posted to iNaturalist
Summer Azure 2, -
E. Tailed-Blue 3, -
Question Mark 1, - our only brushfoot!!
Juvenal's Duskywing 40, 10 our only skipper

We did see a few decent dragonflies, highlighted by a Springtime Darner in
Granville County.
