Francis Marion National Forest, Coffee Swamp (C-10-154). Berkeley County, SC. Walked about 0.75 miles. April 4, 2026. 10:15-11:30 am. Mostly Cloudy low 70's. Dennis and Wendy Allen with Bobbie and Ladson McCutchen.
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail 7 Palamedes Swallowtail 16 unidentified dark swallowtails 5 Cloudless Sulphur 1 Pearl Crescent 12 Question Mark 1 Red Admiral 1 Appalachian Brown 1 (FOY) Carolina Satyrs 6 Intricate Satyr 1 (FOY) unidentified small satyrs 6 Little Wood Satyr 3 Juvenal's Duskywing 2 Clouded Skipper 2 Zabulon Skipper 1 (FOY) Blackberry, Dewberry, and Duck Potato were the conspicuous flowers. But, almost all butterflies were on the move or momentarily set on leaves, tree trunks, or the ground. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Francis Marion National Forest, Road 204 drove from western terminus to just west of Wambaw Bridge. Berkeley County, SC. Several stops including the power line crossing and last two small road intersections before the bridge. Walked about 0.4 miles. April 4, 2026. 11:50 am - 2:15 pm. Mostly Cloudy mid 70's. Dennis and Wendy Allen with Bobbie and Ladson McCutchen.

Coreopsis (a yellow tickweed), Common Vetch, Wild Azalea, Buckeye, Arrow-wood, small yellow aster, Blackberry, and Dewberry in flower plus a few of the first Red Thistles emerging. But, almost all butterflies were on the move or momentarily set on leaves or the ground.
