With warm, sunny weather I planned to run my CarBMP route on Chowan Swamp Game Land near the Wiccacon River on 4/12, but Elisa, the kids, & I got pleasantly held up with good bird, dragonfly, and butterfly activity at a lupine site in southeastern VA near the state line (no Frosted Elfins, but nectaring Lace-winged & Carolina Roadside-Skippers). By the time we got into NC it was mid-afternoon, so instead of doing the route we explored some of the Chowan Swamp GL roads on the south side of the Meherrin River near Parkers Ferry, and I returned to Hertford Co. yesterday, 4/13, a windier day, to run the route. Lists below, NC highlight across the 2 days was certainly at least 2 (and probably 4-5) Gemmed Satyrs, my first of the year and new for Hertford Co. according to the Butterflies of NC website.
