Harmon Den, Haywood County

This is a great place for puddle parties for viewing Eastern and Appalachia=
n Tiger Swallowtails side-by-side. On April 17, I had one nice puddle party=
with approximately 10 yellow swallowtails flying in and out. On April 26, =
I had two large puddle parties of all yellow swallowtails and one smaller p=
arty of yellow STs and Pipevines. Most of the yellow STs I saw were on the =
wing, and I don=E2=80=99t yet feel confident about identifying between them=
that way. There I saw Appalachian Swallowtails in the parties, but find it=
hard to make a count when the butterflies are so clumped together. I put s=
ome pics of the puddle parties on my flickr <https://www.flickr.com/photos/=
190206870@N03/> account.

(Lots of Trilliums; Sweet Shrub; Wild Geranium; Foam Flower, Blue Coetc., b=
looming. I picked up an entire bag of trash at the road entrance to Harmon =
Den and a partial bag of cans for recycling. I did lots of cussing and then=
moved on to the fun part.)

I checked out a part of the forest that I hadn=E2=80=99t explored before ab=
ove a meadow and enjoyed watching the Silver-spotted Skippers nectaring on =
a huge patch of Wild Geranium. Unfortunately, I also found invasive Garlic =
Mustard (pulled what I saw in the woods) and Japanese Honeysuckle. Ugh.
