This morning I went to Breakneck Hill in Southborough; the trail leading from the Southborough Community Gardens area is closed for restoration. It was low 60s, partly cloudy and breezy. I was there from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Not a lot blooming, but there were sulphurs zipping around the fields where many dandelions were open for business. Not much else with six legs was flying, but as I was heading back I spotted a Silvery Blue. All told, I saw:
4 Silvery Blue 12+ Sulphur (species, but at least some were Orange Sulphur) 1 Spring Azure 2 Cabbage White
4 species, 19+ individuals
It was a better day for birds, as I saw and photographed an Eastern Towhee, Indigo Bunting, Song Sparrow. Merlin noted quite a few others (I failed to save the list, though).
I arrived at Broad Meadow Brook at about 1:30; conditions continued to be low 60s and partly cloudy and breezy. Not much was blooming, but there were sizable berry patches along the power line that seemed to be open. I left at 2:45 pm, after seeing:
1 Sleepy Duskywing 1 Orange Sulphur 3 Cabbage White
3 species, 5 individuals.
