Santee Delta East. Georgetown County, SC. Walked 1.0 mile from the Highway 17
parking area to the first cross-dike.

At least 200 Pickerelweed flower stalks emerged in recent days and butterflies
responded. All but the Common Buckeye, Variegated Fritillary, Pearl Crescents,
and Tropical Checkered-Skippers were nectaring on Pickerelweed. A couple of
Broad-winged Sk. were on Vervain. Not much else blooming.

This was the first survey done at the newly established Santee Delta East
route for the Carolina Butterfly Monitoring Program that Jeff Pippen oversees.
