Lots of yellow flowers, mostly Coreopsis (perhaps lobed Tickweed) and Silphium
(perhaps Starry Rosinweed) but they were only used by some duskywings and
Pearl Crescents. Butterflyweed hosted all dark swallowtail species
(identified) and Monarch. Banded Hairstreak, most Gray Hairstreaks, and most
Horace's Duskywings were on New Jersey Tea; about half of those plants were in
full flower. Red Thistle (locally considered a 'skipper magnet') is not common
along this stretch of FS 204 but is abundant in other parts of the forest. It
will be peaking within the next two weeks.
