Cheers, = Heather =20 July 25 & 26, 10 am to 4 pm=20 Cataloochee (Saturday) & Harmon Den (Sunday) =20 Both days: We=E2=80=99ll meet at 10 am at Ingles Grocery in the parking = lot area behind their gas station. The address is 153 Smokey Park Hwy, = Asheville, 28806 (GPS: 35.564895, -82.629025). =20 Day 1: We=E2=80=99ll explore the meadows of the Cataloochee Valley in = the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Easy walking at all the stops = and a good chance of seeing wild Elk. Several pre-park structures to = explore including a homestead and barn that attracts Swallowtail puddle = parties. Entrance to the park is free, but a parking tag is required for = a fee. If you don=E2=80=99t want to carpool with someone who already has = a tag, you can buy one from the automatic fee machine on the road in ($5 = for the day). It=E2=80=99s a long, windy drive with no cell service, gas = stations, or bathrooms, but well worth the drive. Bring a pack lunch.=20 =20 Day 2: Harmon Den is a favorite of Western North Carolina butterfliers = and part of the Pisgah National Forest off exit 7 off I-40 and. This is = mostly roadside butterflying until we park and hike into two meadows = that require long-pants and tick spray. Bring a pack lunch.
