--000000000000abb6e00654ec030c Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Folks, On Sunday my wife and I hiked most of Blackrock Mtn Trail from Waterrock Knob parking lot on the Blue Ridge Parkway (~4 miles, from 11:40 am - 3:25 pm) in Jackson County. Weather was sunny and in the mid- to high-60s. Butterflies were scarce - not much blooming aside from the occasional Mountain Laurel and a few fading flowers of Rubus canadensis. This is a high elevation hike (>6,000 feet) in a spruce-fir forest in the Plott Balsam Mountains. Was hoping to come across a Green Comma, but alas. . . Here is what we found: Great Spangled/Aphrodite Fritillary - 3 Aphrodite Fritillary - 1 Orange Sulphur - 2 Summer Azure -1 Did hear a pair of Hermit Thrush singing - one of the few areas in the southern Apps where they breed.
