Good morning, butterfliers!

The past two days, Jeff Pippen and I have been in the mountains of Mitchell
County, NC to set up a fantastic new survey route for the Carolinas
Butterfly Monitoring Program and explore the area. We were excited to find
a very healthy population of Pepper and Salt Skippers, which was the 2nd
record of the species in Mitchell County ever, with the last record being
in 1992! It was also the record for most Pepper and Salt Skippers
documented at a site on a given day. Pepper and Salt Skipper expert Harry
Pavulaan suggested this population *might* be the recently described
species *A. nemoris*, but more research is needed. Here is our total list
of leps:
