A group of 7 of us went out to do the 2026 Falmouth July Counts today. The
weather was quite nice with mostly sunny skies and temps in the mid to
upper 70's. There was little breeze to speak of.

Thoughts on this years numbers... terrible. The species count is WAY
down. There was a time when we would round up close to or right around 30
species. This year we struggled to get to 20 and ended up with 21. The
numbers are super low as well. I can't really explain it other than it
seems on par with what I am seeing for posts on here. As usual, the
Baltimore Checkerspot numbers were high enough to estimate after a while.
Still not as many as we have seen there at this time of year, but certainly
not in any danger.

Notable missing species (some due to being just a bit too early...
hopefully):
Any duskywings
Northern Broken Dash
Dun Skipper
Long Dash (a bit too late?)
Northern Cloudywing (a bit too late?)
Banded Hairstreak
Common Ringlet
Pearl Crescent
Red banded Hairstreak
Viceroy
