Subject: from the north central South Carolina coast

Francis Marion National Forest, Berkeley County, SC. Drove FR 204 west from
Wambaw Bridge and the length of FR 212 to Hwy 45 with 6 stops of about 15 min
each.
July 2, 2026. 10:00 am - 12:30 pm. Sunny, 85 F. Lingering very dry conditions.

Black-eyed Susan's prevailed on FR204 with all Pearl Crescents, the American
Lady, and some of both duskywings which were also on less abundant Silphium
there. Almost all swallowtails and other species were on the now abundant
Starry Rosinweed (Silphium asteriscus) along stretches of FR212. Some Blazing
Star (Liatris sp.), Rattlesnake Master (Eryngium sp.), Marsh Mallow, Butterfly
Weed, Sneezeweed, Ironweed, and fleabane (Pluchea sp.) in bloom but no
butterflies using them.
