Good afternoon butterfliers!
Jeff Pippen and I headed back to the mountains to explore and run the survey we set up last week. While we had fewer Pepper and Salt Skippers than last week, we had some other great finds, including an Indian Skipper! Here is our total list:
Mitchell County, NC - Green Mountain and Beauty Spot Gap Road
- Pipevine Swallowtail - 50 - Eastern Tiger Swallowtail - 7
- Orange Sulphur - 5 - Clouded Sulphur - 3 - Cabbage White - 7
- Summer Azure - 8 - Appalachian Azure <https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/377577169> - 2 - very worn but still large than nearby Summer Azures - Summer/Appalachian Azure - 1 - flew up into the canopy but appeared large - Eastern Tailed-Blue - 11 - Gray Hairstreak - 1
- Monarch - 2 - Great Spangled Fritillary - 35 - Aphrodite Fritillary - 18 - Great Spangled/Aphrodite Fritillary - 13 - Variegated Fritillary - 2 - Meadow Fritillary - 6 - Pearl Crescent - 13 - Silvery Checkerspot - 5 - Red Admiral - 4 - Eastern Comma - 1 - Common Wood-Nymph - 3
