Subject: Muddy Creek route in Forsyth County, NC

=EF=BB=BFGood afternoon fellow Butterflyers!
I spent part of the morning here in NW Piedmont NC to walk my Carolina Butte=
rfly Monitoring Program route before it got too hot. For the second time in=
a row, I must have arrived the very day after they mowed all of the open fi=
elds along the Muddy Creek Greenway. Which, naturally, rendered them fairly=
devoid of Lepidoptera. But the June bugs and several Odonata were evident.=

The below is a list of ALL the butterflies (4) I saw while walking this 1 mi=
le route:

Eastern tiger swallowtail 1
Monarch 1
Pearl crescent 1
Eastern tailed blue 1

In spite of the mowing, I did see the following blooming along the periphery=
of my route.=20

- Common Self-heal
- Daisy fleabane
- Common milkweed
- Smooth cats ear
- Carolina Horse nettle
- Spotted St. John=E2=80=99s wort
- Dutch White clover
- Slender yellow woodsorrel
- Wild potato vine

Too bad the drought has reduced our populations so dramatically. =F0=9F=98=95=
Pretty dismal report overall=E2=80=A6.

Happy butterflying!
