Folks,

The RDU Airport near Raleigh has gotten a whopping *13" *of rain in July,
which is greater than the total amount of the roughly 12" we got from
January through June! As the weather today was pleasantly mildish (about
82 degrees) and sunny, I hit the arboretum for an hour from 1230 - 130.
Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh was very floriferous today -- with lots of
good nectar plants. But, as I expected, the butterfly diversity was
horrible. Sadly, the damage from the drought might have already been done,
at least locally. We won't know for a few months. Despite the weather and
lots of flowers, I could only muster 10 species.

Pipevine Swallowtail 3
Sleepy Orange 2
Cabbage White 7
Gray Hairstreak 2
Common Buckeye 1 the only brushfoot!!
Silver-spotted Skipper 15
Horace's Duskywing 5
COMMON SOOTYWING 1 nice view, my first of the year
Fiery Skipper 75+ I stopped looking at small orange skippers after about
the 30th, so could have missed a Sachem
Clouded Skipper 1
