Subject: from the north central South Carolina coast

Santee Delta East, Georgetown County, SC. Carolinas Butterfly Monitoring
Program survey #9. Walked the one -mile route on the dike adjacent to tidal
freshwater marshes and swamps.
August 11, 2026. 10:35 am - 12:10 pm. Clear, sunny 88 F.

Silver-spotted and Rare Skippers on the few (<12) Pickerelweeds in flower.
Some Gulf Fritillaries were on Vervain but most were fluttering over other
vegetation, as were all of the other species. Hundreds of Cutleaf Coneflowers
were actively used by bees and wasps but not a single butterfly. The surface
of the dike was mowed that morning. The slopes were densely vegetated.
