Coolest day of the week with winds out of the N and NE with average temp = 84F & cloud cover varying from 25-90%. Most butterfliers pick sunny = and hot days but I guess I'm just a slacker. Flies and mosquitos weren't = bad which was surprising and delightful.
1. 0852-1012 Lake Worth Rd off 264 had only one active area around a small= patch of Saltmarsh Mallow where I saw most of the skippers Palamedes 11 Cloudless Sulphur 3 Red-banded Hairstreak 1 Common Buckeye 1 Southern Broken-Dash 1 Clouded Skipper 2 Broad-winged Skipper 7 Twin-spot Skipper 5 Aaron's Skipper 1
2. 1025-1225 Pamlico Rd off 264; hottest nectar source was the Devil's = Walking Stick flowers;plenty of Bitterweed but the Chinese Bushclover not = in full bloom yet Eastern Tiger Swallowtail 1 Palamedes 35 Cloudless Sulphur 8 Gray Hairstreak 1 Red-banded Hairstreak 3 Common Buckeye 1 American Snout 1 FOY Huron Skipper 2 Fiery Skipper 1 (strange only 1 seen) Delaware Skipper 2 Salt Marsh Skipper 13 Lace-winged Roadside-Skipper 3 poss 4 FOY CAROLINA ROADSIDE-SKIPPER 2 was the highlight (both on the Devil's Walking = Stick at eye level and above, in 1st quarter mile) FOY
3. 1258-1320 Dare Bombing Area Whipping Creek Rd (not very active so = left) Eastern Tiger Swallowtail 1 Palamedes 1 Cloudless Sulphur 4 Summer Azure 1 Common Buckeye 1 Tawny-edged Skipper 1 FOY
4. 1414-1450 Nature's Harmony (nursery business) in Manns Harbor Palamedes 4 Black swallowtail 1 Gray Hairstreak Red-banded Hairstreak 1 Painted Lady 1 Common Buckeye 1 Monarch 1 Horace's Duskywing 2 Silver-spotted Skipper 1 Southern Broken-Dash 2 Fiery Skipper 2
