I only saw one b= utterfly, a worn and tired Red Spotted Purple. It was not flying like it us= ually does. It was hovering around the ground and spending a lot of time re= sting on a sapling (more like a sprout). After it moved from the sapling, I= went over to inspect it. The sapling was a black cherry. The other plants = it was resting on were also black cherry. Interestingly, there was a large = black cherry tree about 100 yards from where I found the butterfly. Maybe i= t was too tired, too old, and too pregnant to make it up there. I would hav= e stayed longer to watch if it actually oviposited, but I had to get back t= o work. Someone has to pay the bills!
