--00000000000068caa7065afd39b2 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Folks, The weather has been cooler for a few days, but still no rain in Raleigh inside the Beltline, where the Arboretum and I are situated, since August, and only 1" in that month. I feared the plants would be bone dry, but the staff do water plants when it gets very dry like this. It felt good to have a sprinkler hit me with some drops! Here is what I had from 1215-115 pm today: Pipevine Swallowtail 6 Sleepy Orange 25 Cloudless Sulphur 8 Cabbage White 18 no Checkereds here, but present a few miles away to the west and south Gray Hairstreak 1 Monarch 1 Variegated Fritillary 3 American Lady 2 woo! First here since maybe June? New brood Common Buckeye 4 Silver-spotted Skipper 3 Common Checkered-Skipper 4 Horace's Skipper 4 new brood, males Fiery Skipper 60 Sachem 1 Eufala Skipper 1 first in a few weeks Clouded Skipper 4 SOUTHERN SKIPPERLING 1 rather worn; scarce at the arboretum It doesn't look like we will get ANY Gulf Fritillaries or Long-tailed Skippers here this fall, but we can always hope! Just not really around in the NC Piedmont this year, but there are still 7-8 weeks for one or two to show up. Ocola Skippers are VERY scarce in the Piedmont also this year.
