Campbell Marine Complex, Sampit River, Georgetown County, SC. Walked about one half mile across maintained lawns and edges of stormwater ponds. September 25, 2026. 12:30- 1:30 pm. 70 F, NE wind. Dennis Allen Cloudless Sulphur 8 Sleepy Orange 3 Gulf Fritillary 17 Common Buckeye 8 Hackberry Emperor 1 (first since May) Long-tailed Skipper 1 Zarucco Duskywing 6 White Checkered-Skipper 5 Tropical Checkered-Skipper 1 (first since May) Clouded Skipper 18 Fiery Skipper 9 Whirlabout 1 Broad-winged Skipper 2 Almost all were on or around Frogfruit (lawns) or Climbing Hempvine (Mikania scandens) (abundant in dry stormwater ponds), with some Cloudless Sulphurs and Gulf Fritillaries on Tievine (Ipomoea cordatotriloba) and Vervain along the shrubby road shoulders. The Hackberry Emperor settled on a bare spot on the lawn for several minutes. |
