I have been doing it for the past couple years with varying degrees of being consistent with my posts. This is really just a fun thing to do to get people out there observing at the end of the season. it is often surprising what is still flying when people think the season is over. The rules are simple. Post everything that you see in the month of October here or on the Massachusetts Butterflies Facebook page. I will be monitoring the posts and putting together a species list to be reported at the end of the month. I will try to report the results weekly as well. This year I have added an iNaturalist project to this as well, just to see how the numbers differ between the masslep/Facebook posts and the iNaturalist posts. Anything posted on iNaturalist in October and in the boundaries of Massachusetts will automatically be captured and will easily be counted. I will verify that the iNaturalist photos are in fact what people say they are. If there is any question, I won't be counting that observation. So, get out there and post away! If history is any guide, the species will decline rapidly as the month goes on, so the first week and a half are pretty important. Any questions you may have, please ask away.
