In Hardwick today 10/18 we saw one Clouded Sulphur and one Mourning Cloak. = Sorry, nothing new for the derby! To echo Don Adams, over the past two days my last Spicebush Swallowtail cat= erpillar transitioned to pre-chrysalis, but transformation has been very sl= ow, so I'm not sure when to expect the hard carapace to appear. It seems th= at this larvae may have just made it in the nick of time . . . the last of = the sassafras I had sourced from a local land trust property was offering v= ery little green for the past week. Some frost was predicted last night, so= I moved the caterpillar to a protected area overnight; it is still viable = and transitioning slowly. Wendy Howes & Alan RawleHardwick
