Subject: 3rd Giant Swallowtail

A male giant swallowtail was seen, and recorded on carolinaleps on =
August 17. While preparing to do a late posting on another male sighted =
August 23, a Giant Swallowtail flew into the garden about an hour ago. =20=

=20
Photos today reveal a female. I then went to check my Ptelea trifoliata =
for eggs (another host plant besides citrus) and found 14 pale orange =
eggs, and two that were non viable. Tiger swallowtails are abundant in =
the garden now, but their eggs are pale green. =20

All three butterflies appeared to be fresh eclosures, as the wings were =
brightly colored, with no tatters, and both tails intact. To have three =
within nine days makes me suspicious that we may have a fresh brood of =
local giant swallowtails.

Another giant swallowtail is now in the garden, a male, that makes a =
pair!

A tattered female was sighted last year in my garden, but we thought it =
may have been blown up be a recent storm.
