Hi Steve,

I reviewed the Code of Ethics and have questions and concerns regarding rep=
orting species that are supposed to be reported only their county location.=
I have taken numerous walks in Shrewsbury where I have seen one or more of=
the species restricted to county level reporting plus additional other spe=
cies. Am I supposed to issue a single report that cites the county where I =
saw all the species seen or two reports, one for those that are OK to list =
by city and second for species restricted to county level reporting? For so=
meone like me who concentrates on locations, primarily in Shrewsbury, perha=
ps all my reports should only be at the county level since it would be easy=
to assume my report was from Shrewsbury or the places that I frequent. If=
all my reports are by county, are we losing some fidelity regarding the di=
stribution of butterflies in our state? I have to also wonder if we are act=
ually revealing a rare species location if we report by the city level.

For now, I have held up reporting my reports from this year until I feel co=
nfident about how these sightings should be handled.

Thank,
Bruce deGraaf
Worcester County, Massachusetts

Subject: [MassLep] New Code of Ethics now on the MBC webpage

Hi all: For the past year the officers and others have been working on a=20
Code of Ethics for our members.

I want to thank all of the officers and Garry Kessler for their input=20
and help in arriving at a place where we think we have balanced the=20
somewhat competing needs of our members for up-to-date information (as=20
well as assisting in the Club's record keeping) as against possible=20
threats to our scarcer butterfly species.

Please take a look at the Code which can be found at=20
massbutterflies.org, then hitting Club Information and then Butterflying=20
Code of Ethics (where you can choose to receive it as PDF or Word).

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks.

Steve Moore

President, MBC
