Subject: [MassLep] Western China Butterflies Update

Hi Folks,
Back in April, I was invited to share my butterfly photos from China with t=
he "Butterflies of China" project on iNaturalist. This set, from my Szechua=
n/Yunnan trip in 2012, was far and away the biggest [637 photos!].=20
I had an ulterior motive: I wanted to correct ID errors and update IDs to r=
eflect current taxonomy. I also added subspecies designations wherever my d=
ata resources permitted me to do so, even if sometimes speculatively.=20
There were actually way more "taxonomy adjustments" than "out and out error=
corrections". In most cases, these involved the elevation of subspecies to=
full species status [to please the "splitters"], but there were also chang=
es in the other direction [to please the "lumpers"]. For example, the "Sino=
pieris" genus was eliminated and most of the species there were moved to th=
e ubiquitous "Pieris" genus.=20
Errors [and "gray areas"] undoubtedly remain. And taxonomy continues to evo=
lve. If you find anything that looks wrong, please let me know.
Also note there lots of unidentified moths on which I could use help.
