Subject: [SoWestLeps] Belated report - Buenos Aires NWR and Tumacacori, AZ
A belated report but I visited a couple of spots at Buenos Aires NWR
in Arivaca and along the Santa Cruz River in Tumacacori back on 6/13
and had a few interesting sightings.
Buenos Aires NWR - highlights were Mimosa Yellow, Mallow
Scrub-Hairstreak, and 200 Leda Ministreaks. There is an enormous leda
flight underway in at least the Santa Cruz valley and possibly other
Also, this is the 5th Mallow Scrub-Hairstreak I've had in the Tucson
area this spring. The species is listed as rare on the SEABA checklist
for SEAZ. Has it become more common since the checklist was last
updated or is it having a bigger flight this spring like so many other
Santa Cruz River in Tumacacori, access from Santa Gertrudis Lane -
1000+ Leda Ministreaks. The numbers were really impressive, especially
when a truck would roll by and scatter hundreds into the air at once.
